The Peak Downs coal mine is a part of BMA, the 50:50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development. Peak Downs is an open-pit coal mine that produces high-quality hard coking coal and is one of Australia's biggest coal mines by recoverable coal reserves. It's located 31 kilometres south east of Moranbah in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people.
